Another clutter problem solved and we are very happy! This week we tackled bathroom clutter and the results are tremendous!
Our bathroom vanity was very cluttered and disorganized. We simply could not find anything; but, I did find some outdated aspirin and a open bottle of mouthwash that spilled out and splattered everywhere. Yep, that was my morning; but, unfortunately this has been typical lately.
Right now things are also a little tight so I knew I couldn’t spend a lot on organizing supplies. So, I took a trip to the Dollar Tree this week and found a lot of items that would eventually help us out…the result is outstanding and we couldn’t be happier with the result…and that we didn’t break the bank.
The battle plan is simple:
- Declutter – what are we keeping? What gets tossed? I must admit that we were hoarding a lot of items. In fact a lot of them must have been buried for the better part of a year or so. One of the things that eased my guilt of tossing so much stuff away was that the majority was either expired or compromised in some other way. I found some mascara that I’ve been looking for and the top was opened, so the mascara was dried up and just crusty. No way I can use that. I also found some old medicine that I boxed up to take to a take-back program.
- Clean out/wipe out – no sense building on a messy surface. I found some items that were opened and spilled out onto the surface and the wall. Gross! So I sprayed with a vinegar and water mix to get the gunk from hair conditioner off the surfaces. I wiped up everything and let it dry some more naturally.
- Setup – what’s the best setup for us (it’s a small vanity, so space is limited). I had to play around with the items a bit to find the best fit.
- Instill better habits – keeping it like this is key! This will not work if you don’t want to keep things neat and orderly. My husband has been really good about this lately and I’m happy to say that it is not only neater; but, we’re both able to see what we have before going out and shopping and spending more money where we don’t need to spend. The results are twofold!
I am so happy with how this turned out! But, I’m a perfectionist and see other things that can be done to make it even more pleasant. I’ll update this post when I go further with this project.
